Structure a STAR answer

Make your contribution and judgment easy to evaluate.

Understand the problem

Keep situation and task brief. Spend most of the answer on your actions, alternatives, and decisions. End with the observed result and what you learned. Separate team achievements from your own contribution.

Make it concrete

Instead of “we improved reliability,” explain the failure you diagnosed, the change you proposed, and how you verified it.

Trade-offs and pitfalls

Over-rehearsal can hide the details the interviewer asks about.

Check your understanding

Draft a two-minute story about a difficult production issue.
